Spider-Man Swings Into GUNNAR Optiks' Line With Kid-Friendly Blue Light Lenses
Does whatever a spider can? Well, can a spider block blue light?!
As children spend more and more time glued to digital devices, concerns over the lasting impact on their eye health and circadian rhythm grow. How developing during the digital age will affect them is still a matter of debate, but companies like GUNNAR are taking the initiative with its line of child-friendly blue light glasses—and who better to guide children to improved eye health than everyone’s favorite wall crawler?
In a partnership with Marvel, GUNNAR released an adorable set of amber-lensed blue and red frames featuring Spider-Man. Despite being for children, the glasses are made with the same quality as GUNNAR’s adult line of frames, with a little more give for the most active webslinger-in-training.
The Cruz Kids Spider-Man Edition frames are available in GUNNAR’s amber lenses, which are designed to reduce blue light by 65 percent. While some may question the efficacy of blue light lenses and the dangers of the high-energy visible light, one area many specialists agree on is the negative impact digital devices have had on circadian rhythm, our natural 24-hour internal clock.
With a little help from Spidey and GUNNAR, children 8 to 12 years old suffering from irregular sleep schedules caused by digital device overload could see improvements. The Spider-Man frames are also available for adults in the same design or as a sleek black and red webbed Miles Morales edition.
Does your child wear prescription lenses? Well, so did Spider-Man at one point! GUNNAR works with most vision insurance companies to outfit their frames with either 35 or 65-percent blue light lenses.
Though there’s no way the kid-friendly glasses will fit over my head, I’ve tested enough of GUNNAR’s line (and other blue light glasses) to know good quality when I see and feel it. The hard plastic frame and flexible temples are designed to maximize comfort and durability, and GUNNAR’s Natural-Focus amber lenses are crystal clear and soothing to look through.
GUNNAR’s Cruz Kids Spider-Man frames are $39.99 for a standard pair or $140 with a prescription.
